What Sunscreen Works Best for Runners

What sunscreen works best for runners is an important questions. Protecting your skin from the elements can be a real challenge for someone who is always on the go. Runners, bikers, walkers and weekend warriors have all faced the challenges of traditional sunscreen.  We turned to an active expert Shanna Tellerman for a few tips on why Sun Bum Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is different!

You’re a marathon runner and always on the go, what challenges have you faced in the past with sunscreen?

I’m sure most runners will agree: having sunscreen drip into your eyes while running is a painful experience! Luckily, Sun Bum’s SPF 50 solves this problem. It has a unique, non-runny texture that stays on your skin and does not run with sweat. This sunscreen also blends in well with my natural skin tone, leaving my skin bright and vibrant, not pale and ashy. Most importantly this sunscreen lasts; I usually have plenty of time to complete my run.

What makes Sun Bum’s SPF 50 unique?

This product is unique in its texture and quality. It is not easy to find a sunscreen that is both functional and aesthetically appealing. The sunscreen completely disappears into my skin after application and does not leave any greasy film.  It feels good and has almost no scent.

What is the duration of your runs and how does the Sun Bum’s sunscreen hold up?

A typical run for me is between 1.5 – 3 hours. I can get through an hour and a half without having to reapply. However, if I’m going out longer than that, I either apply it thickly or slip the bottle into my runner’s backpack. Some of my shirts and belts have pockets built in, which makes it handy. Sun Bum is lightweight (only 3 oz when full), so it doesn’t weigh me down.

Do you have any other skin-protecting tips for us?

Wearing a baseball cap and polarized sunglasses are additional means of protection. Technically, you’re not supposed to apply SPF close to your eyes, so the sunglasses help to reduce sun damage around my eyes. I also use a lip balm with SPF 30 that I carry in my pack.
